Willunga Wander

Welcome to Willunga - rich history, beautiful spaces, fresh produce, friendly folk, arts and festivals, the pure and simple village life. Take your time and enjoy this relaxed, self-guided wander through and about the town, with lovely stops along the way.
Your first stop is the Hither & Yon cellar door is nestled on the High Street tucked inside an old butcher shop built in 1855, with original slate floors and natural light providing an artisan vibe to match the alternative drops on offer.

As you wander through Willunga, keep an eye out for the bronze strips along the footpath - they reflect the area’s rich heritage. Known as Wiljaungga to the Indigenous Kaurna people, Willunga was first explored by Europeans in 1837 and soon became an important halfway stop between Adelaide and Encounter Bay. By the 1840s, mining was underway in the nearby hills, and you will spot it in some of the town’s early buildings. Over time the area became a hub for horticulture, wheat growing, cattle and sheep farming and in 1901 the first of many of almond groves were planted and are still celebrated with Willunga Almond Blossom Festival. Today vineyards and olives surround the historic township, which is also famous for its farmers markets every Saturday morning.

Once you reach the Shiraz Trail, take the native flora and fauna in.

You know you have arrived at Battle of Bosworth when you see the long row of beautiful Oriental Plan trees leading up the driveway. As you continue you will notice the family farmed organic grown vineyards that surround the property.
Enjoy a wine tasting in the historic chaff shed or take in the views in the garden.

On your way back to town you will pass by a dairy farm and the golf course, then back the old court house, police station and stables built in 1839, which is now a museum and picnic grounds.

What better way to finish than an ice cold tasting paddle at the Shifty Lizard Brewing Co Taphouse.  The home of GOOD. FUN. BEER. why not settle in for some wings or a burger from their tasty menu.

Book here & enjoy the wander! Cheers from all of us.
