Introducing Petit Rouge - vis à vis Pink Fizz

Introducing Petit Rouge - vis à vis Pink Fizz

A new wine for us is something we take great care and pride in, especially one which brings a fresh element to the range – pink bubbles! Many of you will be familiar with our Prosecco, which has been popular, however did not fit the ultimate ethos for us – which is to grow and make all of our wines from our own place. So, for this reason alone, we are very happy to release this special wine, 2024 Petit Rouge
Like our Petit Blanc, Petit Rouge comes from a Muscat variety. The difference being this is a red, Muscat Rouge à Petits Grains. A small berried, super fragrant and delicious juicy grape. The variety can make wonderful fortified wines or sweet-style Moscato wines – which ours is not! This was our first pick red grape from the 2024 season, to make a light & fresh spritz. Soft, creamy bubbles, petit, dry, happy days!

An ideal place, our Breakneck Creek vineyard (pictured above) which is higher in the Eastern foothills of McLaren Vale with views down to the Gulf Saint Vincent. Cooler, which is spot on for the style we make for the Petit Rouge, as the grapes ripen evenly without getting too sweet and hold good natural acidity.

The approach is very much the same as we do for our white, Petit Blanc. Whole berries, gentle press on grape skins for about five hours, free run juice into tank, cool ferment over four weeks on fine lees, matured for a further six weeks. Spritzed when going into bottle.

Lightweight sparkling bottle, crown seal and packed in six packs, so pretty and refreshing, ready for the spring table with a variety of dishes, even cocktail mixes. We can’t wait to share this with you and would appreciate your feedback, we would love to make this wine an ongoing part of our list. You purchase the 2024 Petit Rouge from our Willunga cellar door and online here.
