Fiano Festa

Fiano Festa

Today is the inaugural celebration day of Fiano!

As the sunlight of spring is now all around us, the mind easily turns to being by the sea and with a glass of crisp dry white in hand, a plate of freshly caught seafood to the side. Well, lucky we have it all here in McLaren Vale, just off the pristine coast and tucked here in our cool foothills.

Enter Fiano! We planted Fiano as we wished to expand our white range, but also with future climate and site suitability in mind. Fiano is originally from Campania in the Southwest of Italy, where it is regarded as a strongly flavoured, lifted aromatic variety.

Our Fiano sits on our Oakley Road property, this is in a natural gully below the eastern escarpment of McLaren Vale. It is planted on the famed Kurrajong Formation which is highly regarded for Shiraz, but we feel adds a real mineral profile to this Fiano. We love a lean and clean, classically simple style to express the place – chalky, and variety – citrus, but with added texture. Our recent release of 2025 Fiano is our third vintage of the variety.

Some nice words here from Marcus Ellis, of Halliday Wine Companion: “This maintains its line of citric race and lightly saline tang, further underlining the variety’s adaptability to vintage vagaries. Texture’s a thing here. On the quiet, but its moreishly chewy, chalkily grippy, but subtly so. Lime pith and lemon balm, wild flowers and crisp golden apple.”

Also, Campbell Mattinson, from his personal site, Mattinson: “This is a fresh and fruity white wine, for starters, which makes it easy to like. But it’s also a white wine with a slip of satin to its texture, and with subtle hints of grapefruit rind, wax and brine, which give it a bit of extra, and elevate its quality. It’s very good. It’s tasty, it’s crisp, it’s fruity and it’s more.”

You can also find our Fiano on the pour and bottle at supporting local venues:

Rustic Thai, Drifters, Blend Etiquette, Summertown Studio, The Good Tiger, Honey Bang Bang, Wild Flour Willunga, The Aldinga Hotel and The Suburban Brew.

Our 2025 Fiano is also available from our cellar door and for purchase online here.
Thank you to Oliver's Taranga for championing this debut Fiano Festa, and to Chalmers for providing the Fiano plants for us back in 2020. It’s a star variety for the Vale!

We hope you love the artwork as well, this was first done as a real-life mosaic and then reproduced as a label by artist Karen Strapp. The artwork was inspired by the limestone soil geology of the site, all the beautiful citrus fruits and grasses of the wine, and the cool blues of the Gulf St. Vincent.
