CARIGNAN - A CARAVAN OF LOVE FOR HITHER & YON

CARIGNAN - A CARAVAN OF LOVE FOR HITHER & YON

Carignan is originally from Spain, (known as Mazuelo) a black grape variety that can be high in natural tannins and acidity, with earth and game notes. We planted our first block of Carignan on the Hither & Yon Sand Road Block in McLaren Vale in 2014 – a small patch of 0.53Ha. This site is also home to some of our other alternative varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Tempranillo, Aglianico, Greco di Tufo, Montepulciano and Touriga Nacional, and awarded innovative vineyard of the year in 2023 from "Young Gun of Wine."
Carignan or “Caravan’ as we affectionately refer to it is so versatile, and a laid back, food friendly, take anywhere wine. Carignan is currently on our winter tasting list at our Willunga cellar door – the 2022 vintage which is super fruity but fine and focused. The dark berries are juicy and brambly, balanced nicely by savoury notes of liquorice and dried herbs.
